Key Projects Undertaken Programs

Rehabilitation Program for Persons with Disabilities

Pragya Social Organization has been working in the numerous slum areas in Bhopal urban city with persons with disabilities for the past 13 years. Under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNURM), a large number of slums located in the city are being relocated to the periphery of city.

Presently we are working in 12 urban slum areas and all has a good proportion of underprivileged families. A majority of the families here came to the city as seasonal migrants in search of wage labour and later permanently settled here due to lack of opportunities in their area.  These families are primarily engaged as hawkers, daily wages labours, domestic helpers etc.  For most of these families, the greatest struggle is to make ends meet.

We have done two-year rehabilitation program for differently able children with SRTT (Sir Ratan Tata Trust, Mumbai) at Urban Slum Areas of Bhopal City in Madhya Pradesh from January 2014 to December 2015. In this program we have given our services to differently able children of marginalized families of society. We have established three rehabilitation centres with all essential equipment’s and facilities with support of SRTT. We have provided aids and appliances to differently able children and linked them with government schemes for their benefit.

Quality Education Program - Balmitra

Education is the basic need in emerging India and Education is only the option to grow-up. Balmitra is a concept in which we arrange quality education for poor children. First issue to implement Balmitra program is children of BPL families cannot take admission in regular/popular schools for quality education because of their bad financial condition. Second major cause is the poor condition of Government Schools; children do not take interest in their education. Even a child of fifth standard is not able to read properly.

In this endeavour, we selected 30 children in the age group of 2 to 5 years from economically poor backgrounds and got them admission in to “New Vision School” at Kolar.  The entire cost of their school was borne by the organization through individual support.

Vocational Training program

As an initiative towards skill development support, we are providing computer education to children and youths belonging to the vulnerable sections of the society especially the Bagsewaniya adjourning slums for the past 13 years. The centre provides free computer education to these children. We give low cost computer certificate courses for people from the most marginalized in the society.

Pragya Social Organization has done vocational training program under SJSRY Scheme for 180 beneficiaries from the most marginalized in the society of urban slum area of Bhopal City. Students undergoing this training are entitled to a stipend with support of District Urban Development Authority (DUDA), Bhopal. In this training program we have placed successfully 142 beneficiaries in different companies/firms/organization in different places, a number of them are doing continue with their jobs.
